Starting the new year is usually accompanied by resolutions, wishes for strength, confidence, to refocus one’s goals, to live with more passion and purpose, to feel empowered in your relationships and careers and… well the list can go on and on. 😊
We sat back, reflected and pondered on a good way to reset your system to start your year on the right note. We came to the conclusion of a detox.
Our guidelines for ‘detoxing’ your space, mind and body after the festive season should help you re-energize and find motivation for 2019.
Let’s start with a space detox.
- Declutter your closet
Letting go of old clothing and reorganising one’s closet is very freeing. It feels like you’re letting go of the old year and reorganising your thoughts for the new year.
- Clean out your pantry & fridge
Opening your fridge and pantry and seeing your vegetables, snacks and canned goods neatly stacked, organised and ready to eat or use, will ensure the first days back at work or the kids back to school organisation is a breeze.
- Go through your drawers
We all have that drawer, you know, the one you stuff all the “not sure what to do with it but let’s hang on to it just in case” items. Use lunch boxes or glass containers to help organize the items, throw away old and unnecessary items and the drawer of chaos will not seem like a nightmare anymore.
- Clean out your car
After holidaying at the beach, driving the kids and pets around on your adventures and especially after the long drive home, it is definitely a must to clean out your car.
- Make space in your home for positivity
Now that everything has been decluttered it is time to bring in some positivity. Be it a black board with a meal prep itinerary, a space where you can enjoy a good morning coffee, or re-introducing a game night with friends and family.
Mind & Body Detox
- Free yourself of negativity
Do you have that one colleague, friend or family member who constantly seeks to find the negative in their environment? Maybe it’s time to take a step back or to counter their negative with a positive?
- Live with intention
Try to set yourself 1-3 good intentions for each day. This could be anything from helping a friend, challenging yourself more or even be as fun as an adventure. It all depends on your daily needs.
- Focus on Purpose, Passion & Positivity
Without positivity ones purpose could be clouded and the passion to fulfil ones purpose could disappear. Focussing on this could guide you through a positive year.
- Starting a healthy detox
Everyone has different needs therefore selecting the right detox for your body is something that must be taken into consideration. Is your daily life very physically or are you bound to your desk or is it a combination of both? Once you have cleared this up it is easy to find a suitable detox to ensure your energy levels are maintained according to your schedule.
- Regular exercise
Regular exercise does not mean going to the gym 7 days a week. A 10 min walk during your lunch break or a 15 min stretch when you wake up is also types of exercise.
- Eat healthy & regular meals
The key to a balanced diet is regular healthy meals. Have a salad with all your main meals and eat it first – this will help you not to overeat. Drink water during the day to flush your system and stay hydrated.

- Follow a night time routine
- Sleep for 7-8 hours
- Stay positive
