Migratory Route of Southern Right and Humpback Whales
If you are thinking about your holiday adventure this year… Consider Knysna. Why not visit us at The Lofts Boutique Hotel between June and November where we can help you organize your whale watching experience while on holiday?
What could be more enticing than watching whales as they breach and cavort in the open ocean along the coast of the Western Cape in South Africa?
Every year between the months June and November, the Southern Right Whales follow an ancient migration pathway along the coastal waters of the Western Cape, where they stop to calve and nurse their young. Humpback whales also visit this area between May and December to rest and feed on their way to their calving grounds further North in the warm coastal waters of Mozambique. Experience the excitement of viewing these gentle giants along the coastline between Robberg Peninsula to Gericke’s Point with a good pair of Binoculars or book a boat trip out into the open ocean for a close-up experience that will take your breath away. Located on our doorstep is Ocean Odyssey, they are our preferred supplier for close-up whale watching experiences.
There are occasionally sightings of the elusive and shy Brydes Whale which calls this coastline home, as well as various Dolphin species, Pelagic birds and Seals.
